Face Pain

Facial pain can have a multitude of different causes like:

  • Migraine headaches
  • Dental problems
  • TMJ or temperomandibular joint dysfunction
  • Neuropathic facial pain

Trigeminal neuralgia, irritation of the nerve that brings sensory information to the brain, is a usual culprit of face pain as it is triggered by many activities like smiling and eating.

Irritation of the sphenopalatine ganglia, which is right behind the nose, may also cause facial pain particularly the front part of the face.

Face pain that starts at the back of the head sometimes radiating to the face may be caused by occipital neuralgia.
